OVERNIGHT HOLDING

Which accounts allow overnight positions and session close requirements.

Trading Rules Article 7 of 18 Updated Mar 2026

Overnight holding rules determine whether you can keep positions open past the end of the trading session. These rules vary by asset class and apply to both evaluation and funded accounts.

Overnight Rules by Asset Class

Asset ClassOvernight HoldingSession Close Requirement
FuturesNot AllowedAll positions must be flat before session close
StocksNot AllowedAll positions must be flat before market close
CryptoAllowedNo session close requirement

Futures & Stocks

Futures and stock accounts do not allow overnight holding. All positions must be closed before the end of the trading session. This means:

  • Futures — All contracts must be flat before the daily session close. Holding through the overnight session is a rule violation.
  • Stocks — All equity positions must be closed before 4:10 PM EST. No positions can carry over to the next trading day.
Warning

Holding positions overnight on a Futures or Stocks account is a rule violation. Our risk management system monitors all open positions at session close. Violations may result in account review or breach.

Weekend Holding

Weekend rules differ by asset class:

  • Crypto — Markets trade 24/7 including weekends. You can hold crypto positions over the weekend with no restrictions.
  • Futures & Stocks — All positions must be closed by 4:10 PM EST on Friday. You may not hold futures or stock positions over the weekend. Positions found open after the Friday close deadline are flagged as a rule violation.
Tip

If you trade futures or stocks, set a reminder for 4:00 PM EST on Fridays to start closing out positions. This gives you a 10-minute buffer before the 4:10 PM deadline.

Crypto

Crypto accounts allow overnight and weekend holding. You can keep positions open for as long as you like — there is no session close requirement.

  • Crypto — Markets trade 24/7, including weekends and holidays. Positions can be held indefinitely across sessions.
Tip

If your strategy involves swing trading or holding positions for multiple days, Crypto accounts are the right choice. Futures and Stocks accounts are designed for intraday trading only. All-in-One accounts with overnight holding are coming soon.

What Counts as Overnight?

The definition of "overnight" depends on the asset class:

  • Futures — Positions held past the CME daily settlement time are considered overnight.
  • Stocks — Any position open after 4:10 PM EST is considered overnight.

Our system automatically checks for open positions at session boundaries. If a position is detected after close on a non-overnight account, it is flagged as a rule violation.
